About
Dr Mohammad Nazmul Hussain has joined as a research co-investigator/patient partner in an SSHRC funding project on South Asian Caregiving in the School of Nursing, University of McMaster, Canada, in 2023. He is a social scientist with a strong track record of research-appropriate career stage and excellent Qualitative and Quantitative methodological skills. Dr Hussain's PhD thesis was "Experiences of Dementia in a UK Bangladeshi Community: An Exploratory Study" from the University of Salford UK under the supervision of Professor Anthea Innes, Professor Andrew Clark and Professor Muzammil Quraishi. He also studied MSc in Social Research Methods and Statistics from the University of Manchester, UK and has a proven academic background in teaching research methodology and statistics to non-statisticians using SPSS and STATA. He is the founder chairman of CRMS (Centre for Research Methods and Statistics), an online institute providing coaching (additional supports) on research methods and design to Masters and PhD level students globally. His research interests include: dementia in the South Asian community, lived experiences (person with the diagnosis and family members), improving service provision, ethnicity and culture, older people, migration study, and mental health. Dr Hussain is affiliated with many national and international dementia organisations and has contributed to dementia knowledge transfers, including the following: • He has been a Policy and Care Advisor for the Alzheimer's Society of Bangladesh since 2020; he developed the programme to raise awareness of dementia and remove stigma, teaching caregivers of persons with dementia and coaching dementia trainers. He has also developed courses and curricula (levels 1-5) in dementia care to train professional caregivers and trainers. • He was the Head of the curriculum committee for Dementia Care courses developed by the National Skills Development Authority (NSDA), Prime Minister's Office, Government of the People's Republic of Bangladesh. • He has been a member of the Salford Institute of Dementia, School of Health & Society, University of Salford since 2018. • He is a member of the Manchester Institute for Collaborative Research on Aging (MICRA), The University of Manchester, UK. • He is also a member of the North Sea Dementia Group. Dr Hussain has written the following three articles that are under process to publish soon in some peer-reviewed journals: (a) A Dichotomy Between Biomedical Treatment and Jinn Extortion: Knowledge and Beliefs of Dementia in a UK Bangladeshi Community (b) Experiences of Dementia in the UK South Asian Community: A Scoping Review (c) Stigma Surrounding Dementia among the South Asian Ethnic Group: Experience of a UK Bangladeshi Community.
